Tom Wilson

Tom Wilson, NREMT-P, EMT, Adjunct Instructor

Mr. Wilson is the Emergency Medical Technology Instructor.  He is a sixteen year veteran paramedic and has been an EMT instructor for over 10 years.  In addition to teaching EMT courses, Mr. Wilson also holds teaching certificates in basic and advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, vehicle extrication and rescue, and has taught numerous critical care continuing education courses for EMS professionals.

Mr. Wilson is a full time career paramedic with ProMed Ambulance. He is a graduate of SouthArk’s first paramedic class and began his now distinguished career in 1989. He returned to SouthArk in 2003 as an adjunct EMT instructor.  Mr. Wilson has served as the EMT instructor for both on-campus and off site training since 2005.

 In 2006, Mr. Wilson was named the Arkansas Paramedic of the Year, and in 2007 he received the industry’s highest honor having been named as the Asmund S. Laerdal National Paramedic of the Year by the National Association of EMT’s. In ceremonies held in Orlando, Florida, the NAEMT presented Mr. Wilson with his award and recognized him for past accomplishments and dedication to the profession. Mr. Wilson was selected from nominations received from across the.

Mr. Wilson was cited for his many career achievements spanning more than 15 years and for his devotion toEMS . Specifically, he received praises for his ongoing community support and education activities. He volunteers numerous hours conducting first responder, CPR, AED, and other public education programs, and he is a veteran combat medic having served with the Arkansas Army National Guard 39th Infantry, 151st  Cavalry. In 2004, Mr. Wilson served on active duty inas part of Iraqi Freedom II. Mr.Wilson conducted medical training for more than 80 Iraqi National Guard members. Mr. Wilson was awarded the Silver Star and is credited with saving many lives as a combat medic. Also in 2005, he worked closely with ProMed’s Disaster Medical Advanced Response Team in support of relief efforts during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. He helped organize initial triage and medical receiving facilities at the Beach Springs Camp near Smackover.

Mr. Wilson, his wife Christy, and daughter Riley reside in El Dorado . He enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his family.
